Wide computer networks are necessary for interconnection of companies whose distance usually exceeds frame of one locality. According to the type of connection we can divide the connection in 2 types:
Permanent connection
Leased Lines
Point-to-point connection is usually leased from provider of telecommunication services for fixed monthly price. It constitutes a logical communication channel.
Frame Relay
It is transmission network technology which works with switching the frames (data link layer) of variable length. It uses composition of virtual perimeters between interconnected devices and HDLC standard for frames transmission. For its higher efficiency, it replaces X.25 networks.
VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Private virtual network used for the safe transmission of IP packets on TCP/IP public network by codification of all the communication between end nodes.
Temporary connection
This connection is suitable for distant access or permanent connection backup.
Analogue Lines
By using the modems on frequent telephone-type circuits.
ISDN
Higher speed and quality of transmission is achieved on Integrated Services Digital Network, parallel to telephone lines for voice and data transmission.
ADSL
Higher speed and duality of transmission is achieved on asynchronous network, which are currently frequently used for data and voice transmission.
VPN
VPN work in the same way as permanent connections, nevertheless it is necessary to make interconnection via temporary connection by means of modem etc.
GSM (HDSC)
Interconnection by means of technology used for cell phones.
GPRS/CDMA
It is interconnection which also uses technologies of cell phones though it enables to reach higher transfer speed if compared with HDSC.
